Roy Dean Howell
A proud veteran, Roy served four years in the U.S. Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep patriotism and love for his country.
After his military service, Roy channeled his precision and creativity into a successful career as a mechanical designer. His work spanned several companies across the U.S. and Canada, earning him a patent that remained a source of pride throughout his life. Roy’s inventive spirit was matched by his artistic passions; he was an accomplished artist and photographer. Alongside his son, Shannon Howell, he embarked on numerous photography trips across Tennessee, Virginia, and Alabama, capturing stunning scenic and wildlife images. Roy also found joy in painting and was an avid fan of both classic cowboy, horror, sci-fi and action movies.
Roy’s strong, independent spirit was anchored by his faith, as a member of the North Jackson Church of Christ. His life was a testament to his values, from his artistic pursuits to his service in the Air Force, and his commitment to his faith.
He leaves behind his son, Shannon Wayne Howell and daughter in law Christie Lynn Howell of Santa Maria, California, his brother, John Howell of Lenoir City, Tennessee. Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Tate of Jackson, Tennesee and ex wife (Shannon’s mother) Brenda Lee (Howell) Kilpatrick of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
Roy’s final wishes were honored with an immediate burial following his passing. He was laid to rest on August 13, 2024, at Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Tennessee, with arrangements handled by George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Roy’s life was a portrait of dedication, from his military service to his artistic endeavors, leaving a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
