HEAT & STORMS Back in the Forecast to End the Work Week!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

After some morning rain, things have quieted down this afternoon. There could be a light shower or two tonight but most of us will pick up our next shot for rain Thursday night. The best chance for rain and a few storms this week is going to be Friday morning and again late Friday night. We are under a level 1/5 (marginal) risk for storms.

On top of the gusty storm threat, the heat is also coming back Thursday and Friday as heat advisories have already been issued for some of us. Catch the latest on the heat and storm chances coming up here.

TONIGHT:
Rain showers returned for many for the first time in August this morning and lasted into the early afternoon across West Tennessee before tapering off. The showers were associated with a stalled out front that stalled out near the Mississippi River during the day. A few light showers cannot be ruled out tonight but we are not expecting much. Chances for rain are 20% tonight. Skies were mostly cloudy and the winds were light and come out of the northeast. The clouds will break up some tonight and the winds will be calm or light out of the south. The southerly winds will keep our overnight temperatures in the low 70s.

THURSDAY:
Thursday will be much warmer than Wednesday due to the southerly winds. The humidity will increase some as well and highs are forecast to reach the mid 90s. The heat index will likely be in the low triple digits in the afternoon and evening hours for all of West Tennessee. A heat advisory has been issued for our western counties between 11am-9pm on Thursday and it will likely be even hotter on Friday.

A few isolated showers or weak storms are also expected to pop up late in the day or overnight, but most of us will not be seeing them on Thursday. The most likely places to see rain will be along the Kentucky border after the sun goes down. Thursday will be partly cloudy and Thursday night lows will only drop to the mid 70s to kick off our Friday. It will be a warm and humid night.

FRIDAY:
The hot and humid weather will continue on Friday before a cold front will be approaching late in the night and will bring another round of showers and storms with it. As of now, Friday appears to be the best chance for rain for many of us across the region with the morning time frame looking like the best chance. Friday highs will again reach the mid 90s and it will feel well into the triple digits in the afternoon and evening. An excessive heat warning could be issued and heat advisories are a certain at least for most of us.

The winds will come out of the southwest and the skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Rain chances are 60% as of now but we are expecting a break in the rain in the afternoon and evening hours, and that is when the heat will really get turned up. Friday night lows will again fall down to the mid 70s making for another warm and humid night.

THE WEEKEND:
Depending on the timing of the late week front, we could see some showers and storms sticking around for our Saturday. Plus if the front stalls out, we will pick up a chance for a few showers to linger into Sunday as well. Highs could reach the mid 90s on Saturday or even the upper 80s depending on the timing of the front. Sunday will be cooler than Saturday but we should also see more sunshine on Sunday too. The winds will start out of the southwest before transitioning to the west and then the northwest this weekend as the cold front digs in. We will be watching the timing of the front as the week progresses and help you with your weekend plans to avoid any wet weather as well.
