Carl Perkins Civic Center hosts ‘A Dance with My Dad’ sneaker ball
JACKSON, Tenn. — A family friendly event makes its debut in the Hub City.
Dads and children across Jackson made their way to the Carl Perkins Civic Center to dance their night away in sneakers.
“So the mayor brought this idea back to us. I know we have several going on at like schools and Madison County does one so we just thought it would be a good idea to be able to do one that was more inclusive for the whole family,” said Whitney Billingsley, community engagement director for JPR.
The City of Jackson and Jackson Parks and Recreation had their debut ‘A Dance with My Dad’ sneaker ball.
This was inclusive to children of all ages and genders. This year’s theme was a ‘sneaker ball.’
“I’m actually here working. I always say Jackson is a place where you live, play, and work. So for parks, that’s what I get to do. I’m out here with my girls and my husband and we’re having fun but I’m still working,” said Jehonathan and Haven Childs, attendees.
Jehonathan and his daughter Haven enjoyed this evening festivities. The two usually have their daddy and daughter date, but this was a good change.
“It’s good to know you’re in a city that gives you opportunities to do other things other than, say restaurants, movies and things like that, but gives you the chance to dance and interact with other people also,” said Jehonathan.
He also shares this event is not only for fathers but also father figures.
“Or uncles bringing your nieces out if you can and just a good opportunity to spend time together. There’s more than just dancing, they have dance and food and everything,” said Jehonathan.
Guests had the option of dancing, playing games and making candy bags.
