PRESS RELEASE FROM ROTARY CLUB OF JACKSON-OLD HICKORY:
Rotary Club of Jackson-Old Hickory Golf Tournament to Boost Childhood Literacy and Education Initiatives Across Madison County
Jackson, TN – August 16, 2024 – The Rotary Club of Jackson-Old Hickory is proud to announce its upcoming “Read the Greens: Golf Tournament for Literacy” on Thursday, September 5, at 12:00 PM, hosted at Woodland Hills Golf & Country Club. This annual event is a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts, providing crucial support to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and other vital education initiatives in Madison County.
“I’m thrilled to share that online registration is now open! We have several ways for every member to participate, whether you’re an avid golfer or just looking to support our cause.” – Club President, Clint Beilke
A Swing for Literacy: The Golf Tournament plays a pivotal role in increasing childhood literacy throughout Madison County by funding the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This program ensures that every child has access to books from birth, fostering a love of reading that will last a lifetime. Our goal is to raise at least $4,000 annually through this event, helping us to continue and potentially expand our support for this essential program.
Supporting Rotary Heart and Sole: In addition to literacy, the Rotary Club of Jackson-Old Hickory is dedicated to meeting the basic needs of our community’s children through the Rotary Heart and Sole initiative. This program provides every child in a designated school with new socks and shoes, rotating to a different school each year. With a fundraising goal of $30,000 for each school, this effort ensures that children have the essentials they need to succeed in their educational journey.
Kicking Off Education and Literacy Month: The Golf Tournament also marks the beginning of our month-long focus on Education and Literacy throughout September. We invite the public to join us at the following events:
- September 16, 12:00 PM: Keynote Speech by Dr. Donald W. Comer – Interim President of Lane College will address education and literacy in Jackson-Madison County and beyond. (Rotary Club Meeting)
- September 23, 12:00 PM: Panel on Basic Education and Literacy – Featuring Jackson-Madison County School Superintendent Dr. Marlon King, University of Memphis Lambuth COO/Dean Dr. Richard Bloomer, and Jackson State Community College Director of Recruiting Seth Hardin. (Rotary Club Meeting)
- September 30, 6:00 PM: Community Connections: Empowering Through Education – A networking-focused event at UT Martin Jackson Center, featuring speeches from UT Martin and Jackson State Community College leadership, centered on the theme of Basic Education and Literacy. (Rotary Club Social)
These events are designed to be engaging, informative, and open to the public, offering valuable insights and opportunities for community involvement in supporting education.
Join Us: We encourage everyone—whether you’re a golfer, a sponsor, or a community member who cares about education—to get involved in this crucial event. By participating in our Golf Tournament or any of our September events, you’ll be directly contributing to the betterment of our community, ensuring that every child has the resources they need to thrive.
