Madison County Commission holds monthly meeting, Commissioner Hale to resign
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Commission held their monthly meeting Monday morning.
It was a fairly short meeting with just a few items on the agenda that were voted on. One of the first items was getting an update on the Forked Deer River Flood Plan. We spoke with County Commissioner Mike Taylor regarding that update.
“It’s going to be an impressive site,” Taylor said. “The Forked Deer River Flood Plan, they do a lot of things for this community that people don’t understand. They’re working on a trail out to Bemis. And some different things that they were giving us updates on those.”
They also planned on voting for the approval for wastewater expansion. After some discussion, a decision was not made.
“The approval of the wastewater and water expansion out west by JEA was tabled until next month to give us an opportunity to discuss more with the residents out there,” Taylor said.
We were also able to speak with Madison County Mayor A.J. Massey regarding the recent vehicle wrecks and the growing concern of some dangerous intersections around the area.
“We’ve had some increased police presence out there which has helped,” Mayor Massey said. “I just got some data this morning that people are following the speed limit within reason out there. So as long as that continues and people are aware that it is busier than it probably has ever been, we can prevent some damage to vehicles and obviously some loss of life.”
Commissioner Joey Hale of District 3 offered his resignation to Commissioner Taylor after the meeting. In the letter, Hale states, “I have come to the difficulty decision that I can no longer execute my role on the Commission to the degree that I believe this position deserves.”
He later continued offering his assistance during the transition period.
Commissioner Hale will have to wait to see if his resignation is accepted during next month’s meeting.
