Educator of the Week: Beverly Weatherington
It’s time now to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Beverly Weatherington is a 5th grade teacher at Chester County Middle School. She teaches English, reading, writing and social studies.
“I love to see when the struggle passes and they understand something that they’ve been working with and struggling with,” Weatherington said.
Weatherington used to be a teachers aid, which led to her current career.
“Watching the different teachers and seeing what they were putting into their students, I wanted to be a part of that,” she said. “I wanted to be a part of helping a child reach their goals and accomplish their dreams.”
Weatherington is now on her 19th year teaching.
For future educators, she offers encouragement.
“The more you think you know, the less that you really do, but stick with it and be patient and be flexible.”
Weatherington graduated from Chester County, but has had quite the journey before returning.
“My husband joined the Air Force and we moved off, and I have taught in San Antonio, Texas, and also in Kentucky, and then we decided to move home.”
Weatherington is grateful for the small town atmosphere.
“I love the fact that we can actually have relationships with our parents a lot more. Parents are more involved with their kids because that’s the key, getting the parents in there and involved as well.”
Weatherington was surprised by her nomination.
“Amazing, humbling actually. Sorry. I haven’t been here in Chester County for very long, and I’ve seen some amazing teachers who have received this honor, and I don’t know that I would have counted myself there, so it’s pretty awesome.”
Weatherington is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
