Record Heat Coming Mid-Week, First Peek at Labor Day

Sunday Forecast Update

If you are a fan of hot weather, Storm Team 7 has some great news for you. A particularly powerful Sonoran ridge is bringing some very high temperatures starting Monday. The good news about this ridge? Humidity, and thus, heat index values are forecast to be low. This ridge originated west of the Rockies which makes this a continental tropical airmass. Hot and dry conditions will linger through the entire week until a cooldown moves in late next week.

Sunday to Monday:

Temperatures will remain in the mid-upper 90s with dew points in the low-mid 60s. These low dewpoints will keep the heat index values close to the actual temperature of the air. Possibly even a degree or two below the actual temperature. As of 2:40 PM Sunday, The heat index in Jackson is 93 degrees, but the air temperature is registered at 94. This will be true Monday as well.

Sun Heat

Tuesday Through Thursday:

Record Temperatures will be a possibility under this ridge as it sets in on top of West Tennessee. All three days, temperatures are expected to crest above triple-digits. If skies are clear enough and the sun is intense enough, we very well may see some records fall this week. The record for Tuesday is 105, Wednesday is also 106, both set in 1943. The Storm Team 7 forecast highs for both days is 101 and 102 respectively.

Into Next Weekend and Labor Day:

Temperatures will remain slightly above average for the holiday weekend, however, we aren’t looking at any relief. Temperatures will still remain in the low 90s. A slight cooldown cannot be ruled out after Labor Day with the trends we’ve been watching over the past few days.
