Student charged after making bomb threat to Crockett County Middle School

ALAMO, Tenn. — One Crockett County Middle School student is set to appear before a judge after making a bomb threat.

According to the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, officials at the Crockett County Middle School came into possession of a note found on school premises indicating a bomb threat for a later date. Shortly after, the sheriff’s office conducted a thorough investigation to assess the credibility of the threat.

School administration employees worked closely with the law enforcement to identify the individual responsible for the threat. Once identified, the student confessed to writing the note.

According to the CCSO, the note was legitimate, however, the student did not have the means to carry out the threat at the time. The student is now charged with filing a false report which created an emergency response and is set to appear before Judge Conley in juvenile court.

The CCSO says the identity of the juvenile will not be released and asks that it not be posted as well.

“Since this is a juvenile, the identity is protected by law and as a result we will not release a name. We ask you not to post the name as well.”

The CCSO says it takes all threats to the safety and security of the community seriously and is pursuing all appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with school policies and the law. School officials also increased safety measures Wednesday at Crockett County Middle School and say they will continue to prioritize campus safety.

The sheriff’s office also says it is committed to open lines of communication with the public and encourages members of the community to engage with them regarding any information that may compromise the safe learning environment of local schools. Any known threat should be reported to Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, school resource officer, the CCSD Sheriff’s App anonymous tip feature, school officials, or the SAFE TN app.

The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
