Henderson swears in Mayor-elect Terry Bell

HENDERSON, Tenn. — Many gathered at Henderson City Hall Friday morning to witness Mayor-elect Terry Bell be sworn in for his upcoming term.

It was a special ceremony, not only for the new mayor, but also for Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Roger Page, who is also from Henderson.

In his final official act as Justice, Page had the honor of swearing in the new mayor. He spoke about what makes small towns in Tennessee great.

“Well, it’s just the people. It’s always the people,” Page said. “Everybody’s honest. Everybody loves each other. Everybody supports each other. It’s just great to be from a small town. This is my hometown too.”

Mayor Bobby King served for 16 years in his role for the City of Henderson. He decided to retire at the end of his term, giving Henderson its third mayor in 40 years.

“I’m very happy they let me serve, but also I’m happy they let me choose my retirement and didn’t choose it for me,” said King. “It’s been a good 16 years, and the city is in great shape with the hard work of the people here. The alderman and the department heads have done a great job here. I think the city is left in pretty good hands.”

Mayor-elect Bell says he is very excited to have been elected. He says he loves the City of Henderson and wants to make it better everyday.

He also says that the people of Henderson are what makes it a great place to live.

“It’s a great hometown. We have great schools. Great, safe streets with a police department that cares about the people. All the departments are good caring people. I just want to continue that tradition,” Bell said.

Also, three city alderman were sworn in as well.

When the clock strikes midnight to begin September, Bell will officially begin his term as mayor.
