East Madison County Community Association holds annual BBQ fundraiser

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Many people are still doing some grilling this Labor Day, including one local community organization.

The people over at the East Madison County Community Association have been cooking all morning long on Monday. So many things were available for people to buy.

We spoke to their pitmaster Ben Jackson about what all was on the grill.

“Today we have whole hog barbecue and chicken. Right off the grill,” Jackson said.

The dessert table was incredible. Banana pudding, chess pies, it’s a wonder how I did not spend all of my money. They weren’t just making and selling food for the sake of it, they’re selling it to keep this place open that so many people enjoy.

“This fundraiser is an annual event,” said Eunice Pruitte, EMCCA Director. “It will help keep the daily expenses and stuff paid off like that. Other than that, we have different events to raise funds to keep this center open and things like that.”

Now this building that is tucked into the woods at 682 Tri-Community Drive in east Madison County hosts so many fun events that people enjoy. If you are able to get out here at some point, you really need to.

“We are open four days a week,” Pruitte said. “What we offer now is fitness on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30. Everything is free. On Tuesday we have a quilting class. Anyone is welcome to come. That is free too.”

My sandwich is gone. I wish I had another. If you weren’t able to come this year, make sure you come next year with a full wallet and an empty stomach, because I promise, you will not regret it.

EMCCA also plans to start up bingo games here soon as well. They also normally offer computer classes, but right now they are currently looking for a volunteer to help teach.
