UPDATE: House fire in east Jackson kills one, officials say

JACKSON, Tenn.– Jackson firefighters were called out to a fire in east Jackson after receiving reports of a house fire Wednesday evening.

Crews were dispatched to find a house fire in the 100 block of Hale Street just after 9:30 p.m.

When WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a house and numerous fire trucks and firefighters working to put out the fire.

Neighbors in the area told our crews they believe the house is abandoned.
As of late Wednesday evening, firefighters remained on the scene working to bring the fire under control.

There’s no immediate word on how the fire started and it is currently under investigation.
