Benton County Dispatch Report: September 6-12
BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — The following are full dispatch reports from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, September 6-12.
September 6, 2024
Holladay/Sugar Tree Area
- Deputy responded to a noise complaint. Caller advised her neighbor was outside screaming and she was worried about him. Deputies arrived on scene and talked to male subject. He advised everything was ok, and he did not need any emergency services.
- Deputies responded to a business alarm 3 times during the day/night. Alarm company advised this business has a faulty alarm and something is wrong. Deputies still went to the alarms and secured the area.
- Deputy performed a traffic stop for tags being expired. Deputy asked for k9 to assist. k9 found drugs in the vehicle.3 people were arrested and taken to Benton County Jail.
- Deputies responded to a call from Nashville advising that they had a kidnapping and were asking for Benton County assistance. They advised if we could sit in the entry/ exits unto the interstate looking for a big rig that matches Nashville’s description. Nashville later advised they did not need our assistance anymore.
- Deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle call. Caller advised there was a vehicle in the middle of the roadway. Deputies arrived on scene and advised the vehicle was in the roadway, and nobody was in it. Deputies found people walking down the road. They gave them a ride to get a tire iron for their flat tire. Then assisted them with the tire.
Camden Area
- Deputy responded to an animal compliant call, animal control needed some assistance with an aggressive dog.
- Deputy responded to a welfare check call. Caller advised her mother did not have a phone and she hasn’t heard from her in a while. Deputy made scene and advised they made contact with the mother, and the daughter was called with an update.
- Deputy responded to an accident deer vs vehicle. Caller hit the deer and there was substantial damage to her vehicle. Deputy arrived on scene and advised the vehicle was ok enough to drive it home.
- Deputies and EMS responded to a mental status change call. Caller advised her husband was having a schizophrenic episode due to him not taking his meds. Caller advised he needed some help. EMS arrived on scene and the husband refused medical treatment, Deputy was able to calm him down.
- Deputy responded to a 911 open line. Deputy advised the caller accidentally called 911 and they did not need any emergency services at this time.
- Deputies responded to a suspicious person call. Caller advised there was a male in the middle of the roadway. Deputies made scene and advised that the male was fine. Male was riding his bike and was taking a break. Everything was ok, and he was laying on the side of the roadway not in the roadway.
Eva Area
- Deputies and EVAFD responded to a grass fire. Caller advised he had a fire in the backyard and it got out of control. Caller advised this was heading towards the homes next to him. EVAFD and Deputies arrived on scene. EVAFD got the fire out and made sure it did not spread. Deputies advised nobody was harmed.
- Deputy and HWY Dept responded to a tree down in the middle of the roadway. HWY dept got the tree up and it’s been cleared.
Big Sandy Area
- Deputies and EMS responded to a mental status change call. Caller advised she was being against her will in her rv while the gas fumes were pouring inside. Her husband would not let her out, and was having a mental status change. Deputies arrived on scene and were able to safely turn off the gas. Both parties refused EMS and her husband ended up calming down and taking his meds.
Arrests
- 1 male for poss of drugs, 1 male for poss of drugs, 1 female for poss of drugs, 1 male mittimus
- 1 male poss of meth, 1 male for FTA.
September 7, 2024
Holladay/Sugar Tree Area
- Deputies responded to a stolen vehicle call. Deputies advised to put a bolo out for the vehicle and notify THP incase they headed towards the interstate. Deputies patrolled the area and made no contact with the vehicle. It has been reported stolen and entered as stolen.
- Deputies responded to a suspicious person call. Caller advised the vehicle was driving weird through her neighborhood. Deputies arrived on scene and advised they did not see the vehicle, they patrolled the area and made contact with the vehicle. Deputies ran both subjects and one had a VOP out of our county. Subject was taken to the Benton County Jail.
- Deputy responded to a suspicious person’s call. Caller advised there was a person walking down the middle of the roadway. Deputy arrived on scene and advised it was somebody walking to Loves. Deputy advised they would take him to Loves. Subject was then dropped off at Loves.
- Deputy responded to a call about a truck driving company calling in for a welfare check on their driver. They had not heard from the driver in 2 days. Deputy arrived on scene and found the truck. Deputy talked to the truck driver and advised they were ok. They did not need any emergency services.
Camden Area
- Deputy responded to a business alarm call. Deputy advised they checked the area and secured it. Made no contact with anybody or anything.
- Deputy, EMS and City Officers responded to a reckless driver call. Caller was all over the roadway. Deputies and City Officers made scene and advised the driver needed EMS. EMS arrived on scene and transported the driver.
- Deputy, HMFD responded to a grass fire call. Deputy and HMFD arrived on scene and saw the homeowner getting the fire out with the water hose. HMFD were able to assist the homeowner with getting the fire out.
- Deputy responded to a road hazard. Caller advised there was an object in the road. HWY Dept was called and was able to get items with the help of the deputy out of the roadway.
- Deputy and EVAFD responded to a call about a fire alarm going off. Deputy and EVAFD arrived on scene and advised everything was ok. The fire alarms needed to have their alarm batteries checked.
- Deputy, EMS and THP responded to a call about a 2 vehicle accident. Deputy and THP arrived on scene and advised EMS to send somebody who was hurt. Female was transported via EMS and THP worked the wreck.
- Deputy responded to a neighbor problem. Caller advised she was outside with her kids and her neighbor started yelling at her. Caller advised she was scared of her neighbor. Deputy arrived on scene and advised that he spoke to both parties. Advised the neighbor who was yelling to calm down or he would be going to jail.
- Deputy responded to a motorist assist call. Caller advised their vehicle broke down and they needed some help. Deputy arrived on scene and advised the vehicle would not start, they got a tow truck en route and the driver had a ride home.
- Deputy and EMS responded to a call about an unconscious person who was not breathing well. Deputy arrived on scene and advised he was breathing a little better, EMS then arrived on scene. EMS took the subject via ambulance to the ER.

Big Sandy Area
- Deputy responded to a call about a side by side accident the hospital called us about. The hospital advised they had 3 people come in who were injured from a wreck. Deputy went into the area the hospital advised they wrecked and made no contact with any side by sides.

- 1 female driving on suspended, 1 male for violation of probation
September 8, 2024
Holladay/Sugar Tree Area
- Deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle call. Caller advised there was a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood driving up and down people’s driveways. Deputies arrived on scene and patrolled the area. Deputies found the vehicle. Deputy advised 1 male subject had a warrant and drugs were found in the vehicle. 1 male and 1 female were arrested for drugs.
- Deputies responded to a domestic in progress call. Caller advised her husband was verbally violent towards her and was escalating. She was worried he was going to harm her. Deputies arrived on scene and found the male subject had left. Female subject did not want to press charged she just wanted party supervision if he returned.
Camden Area
- Deputy responded to an animal complaint. Caller advised there was a pig in the middle of the roadway. Deputy arrived on scene and was able to track down the owner, and got the pig home and out of the roadway.
- Deputy responded to a suspicious person’s call about a possible child running down the roadway. Deputy arrived on scene and advised they patrolled the area and made no contact with any child or young adult.
- Deputy responded to a fire alarm. Deputy arrived on scene and patrolled the area, they did not find anything around the residence. Deputy secured the residence.
- Deputies responded to a threat call from a girlfriend who was scared her boyfriend was going to come back to her home and harm her after their verbal argument. Girlfriend advised she did not want to press charges but wanted him trespassed from the home. Boyfriend resides in Perry County, Perry County advised they made contact with him to trespass him from the home.
- Deputies responded to a call about a woman in her vehicle who was slumped over behind the wheel in the middle of the roadway. Deputies arrived on scene and did not make any contact with a driver or vehicle. They continued to patrol the area.
- Deputy responded to a suspicious vehicle call. Caller advised that the truck was driving up and down the roadway. Deputies arrived on scene and advised they did not make any contact with the vehicle. continued to patrol the area.
- Deputy responded to a motorist assist. Caller advised they needed help changing a tire. Deputy arrived on scene and assisted the driver, and was able to get the vehicle back on the roadway.
Eva Area
- Deputy responded to an apple alert from a cell phone saying the driver of a vehicle had been in an accident. Deputy arrived on scene and advised there was no accident, that the driver left their cellphone on top of the vehicle and was driving down the road. Deputy assisted in finding the cellphone.
Big Sandy Area
- Deputy and BSFD responded to a call about grass on fire next to a residence. Deputy and BSFD arrived on scene and were able to get the fire out. There were no injuries.
Arrests
- 1 male for an active warrant ,1 female for dug paraphernalia
September 9, 2024
HOLLADAY / SUGAR TREE AREA
- One9 Truck Stop manager reported that a white male with dark hair, wearing glasses and sweatpants presented lottery receipts with writing on the back. Manager reported that the receipts stated that he was hitchhiking and had laid bombs at the locations on the receipts. Deputies and the Dept of Homeland Security responded to the scene. Chief Deputy advised to have Love’s and Decatur County keep an eye out for the subject. Incoming traffic from the highway was blocked. Deputies checked properties and businesses in the nearby area. DHS agent advised dispatch to notify Jackson THP and to send them a photo of the subject. Chief Deputy advised dispatch to enter a bolo. THP dispatched their helicopter to the area. THP Sgt French advised that they had footage of the male subject going into the woods and requested a perimeter. THP advised that they had a trooper out with the subject on Highway 46 in Dickson. Positive ID was confirmed. Deputy went to Dickson to pick up the male. Male subject, David Harley Smith, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
- Deputies responded to the report of an unwanted subject on Strawberry Gables Rd. It was reported that a female subject was throwing things and causing a disturbance. Deputies spoke to both parties and advised that the situation was verbal and not physical. Deputy advised that the male would go to the courthouse tomorrow to have the female evicted and that they would sleep on opposite sides of the camper for the night.
CAMDEN AREA
- Deputy responded to the request for a welfare check. Manager requested that their employee who had missed two days of work to be checked on. The manager advised that she had not been able to get a hold of the employee. Manager reported that she was worried for the employees safety and suspected that the employee’s spouse may be aggressive. Deputy made contact with the employee and advised that they had stated that they would call their boss.
- Deputy responded to the report of a traffic hazard. A male subject in dark clothing was reported to be walking on the wrong side of the roadway. Deputy made contact with the male subject. Deputy advised that the male was advised to walk on the other side of the roadway, against traffic, and to wear brighter clothing next time when walking at night.
EVA AREA
- No area happenings reported
BIG SANDY AREA
- Report of animals in the roadway was received. Contact was made with the owner who advised that they would have someone to come check. It was reported that the horses appeared to not be getting any food. The TN Department of Agriculture was notified. Agriculture advised that there were about 20 horses on the property with one in bad shape. Agriculture advised that they would have a technician come out Wednesday.
- Deputy responded to the report of a road hazard. Dispatch received the report of a trailer hauling scrap that was halfway in the roadway without hazard lights. Deputy checked the area but made no contact.
- Deputies and Big Sandy FD responded to the report of a grass fire. Big Sandy FD put the fire out. BSFD was dispatched to the scene again hours later after the fire rekindled and had spread to the tree tops and the shed nearby. BSFD put the fire out again
- Deputies responded to the report of a verbal domestic disturbance-in progress. Female caller stated that the male party was being verbally abusive. Female reported that they had been arguing all day and that they both were under the influence of alcohol. Deputy made contact with both parties. Deputy advised that everything was okay at this time. Deputy advised that the female subject was the aggressor and that there would be a party separation for the night. Deputy advised that the male party would be leaving.
- Deputy responded to the report of suspicious activity. It was reported that someone knocked on the complainant’s door and that several gunshots were heard in the area before and after the knock. Deputy checked the area and advised that no contact was made with anyone on the property or in the area. Deputy advised that the complainant possibly heard sounds coming from the brush/structure fire that was in the area.
ARRESTS
- 4 arrests made; 1 as previously mentioned, Freddie Wheatley Jr arrested for criminal conspiracy, unlawful paraphernalia and theft under $1000 with $10k bond; Austin Hardin arrested on criminal conspiracy and unlawful paraphernalia with $10K bond, and Stephanie Harris arrested for criminal conspiracy, unlawful paraphernalia and possession of schedule II meth with $10K bond.
September 10, 2024
Holladay/Sugar Tree Area
- Deputy responded to a call about property needing to be exchanged. Deputy arrived on scene and was able to advise both parties of their legal rights and this would be a civil issue.
- Deputies responded to a landlord call. Caller advised that her landlord turned off her power to her home and was outside telling her to leave as well as her boyfriend. Caller wanted the officers there to assist. Deputies arrived on scene, and advised the landlord to turn the power back on and did a party separation with boyfriend and caller.
Camden Area
- Deputies, THP, Rescue Squad, CLFD and Air Vac all responded to an accident call. Caller advised they were in a truck that ran off the roadway and the driver was possibly having a medical emergency and that is why they wrecked. Caller advised there were 2 people in the vehicle. Caller advised she could not reach over to check on the driver, but his chest was not rising. Caller advised her back was hurting. Deputies, Rescue Squad and THP arrived on scene and could not get male out of the vehicle, Rescue Squad got the male out. Female was set up a landing zone and was air vaced to Centennial. THP worked the wreck.
- Deputy and Animal Control responded to an animal complaint call. Caller advised there was a dog on her property that tore up all her Halloween decorations and she was going to shoot it. Animal Control arrived on scene of the dog’s home and asked for a Deputy. Deputy arrived on scene and Animal Control wrote the dog owner a citation.
- Deputy responded to a reckless driver call. Caller advised there was a vehicle that was driving too slow and was swerving in and out of lanes. Deputy arrived on scene and searched the area for vehicle. The deputy made no contact, but continued to patrol the area.
- Deputies responded to a 911 open line. Deputy arrived on scene and advised this was actually an assault not in progress call. Female on scene advised she was attacked and the second female threw a brick through her window and hit her. Second female was still on the property. Deputies searched for her and found her in the bushes and she was taken into custody and brought to Benton County Jail.
- Deputy went to the residence for an active warrant to try and make contact with the female. Female was home and taken into custody, and taken to Benton County Jail.
- Deputies responded to a 911 open line. Deputies arrived on sceen and advised there was a verbal argument going on. Female and Male were arguing but finished up their conversation as deputies approached them. Both parties advised it was not physical and everything was ok. They were going to separate for the night.
- Deputies and THP responded to a 911 open line. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with a vehicle on the side of the roadway. Deputies then drove down the road and found a female. Female advised she did not know where she was and was severely confused. Deputies found drugs in her car, and THP took her to the hospital for evaluation.

Big Sandy Area
- Deputy responded to a reckless driver call. Caller advised the vehicle kept going over the line. Deputy arrived on scene and found the vehicle, deputy performed a traffic stop and advised the driver to stay in the lines.
- Deputies responded to a child custody dispute. Caller advised the mother of his kids took the child from the ballfields and would not give the child back. Caller advised this was his time per his parenting plan. Deputies arrived on scene and explained to the mother that the child would need to go with the father. Mother gave father the child and everything was ok.
- Deputies responded to a runaway juvenile call. Caller was the mother of the child and advised he had not seen her son since Friday last week. Caller stated she had full custody of the child and knew where the child was per his life 360. Life 360 advised he was in Paris. Deputies arrived on scene to start gathering more information. Dispatch called Paris Pd and was able to give them an address. Paris PD went to the address and found the juvenile Juvenile agreed to come back home. Later Juvenile returned home with his girlfriend. Mother did not want her there and had her trespassed from residence.

September 11, 2024
Holladay/ Sugar Tree Area
- Deputy responded to a noise complaint call. Caller advised the music next door was too loud and they could sleep. Deputy arrived on scene and advised the neighbor to try and keep the music down so they could keep the peace.
- Deputy, HMFD and EMS responded to an ambulance call. Caller advised there was a female who had trouble breathing and her heartbeat was irregular. Deputy, EMS and HMFD arrived on scene, and Air Vac was set up to transport the female.
- Deputy responded to an unwanted subject call. Caller advised there was somebody in the parking lot that did not have their shirt on. Deputy arrived on scene and advised everything was ok. The male subject was a surveyor trying to get ticks off him.
- Deputies responded to a suicidal threats call with a juvenile. Caller advised the juvenile sent text messages about harming himself to his girlfriend. Deputies arrived on scene and talked to the juvenile. Juvenile stated he was ok, and he was just upset at the time. He does not want to harm himself or anybody else and everything is ok.
Camden Area
- Deputy THP, and HWY Dept responded to a 1 vehicle accident. Deputy arrived on scene and advised that the vehicle hit a speed limit sign, but was uninjured. THP worked the wreck.
- Deputy advised they were serving a warrant paper. Deputy served a warrant on a male subject and he was taken to Benton County Jail.
- Deputy and THP responded to an accident call. Caller advised that an equipment truck struck a combine. Deputy arrived on scene and advised there were no injuries. THP worked the wreck and cleared the roadway.
- Deputies responded to an assault not in progress. Caller advised there was a male subject who came up to him, ripped his shirt and started to attack him then left. Caller advised he knew where he went. Deputy arrived on scene and found out where the male subject went. Deputy found male subject and he was arrested and taken to Benton County Jail.
- Deputies and EMS responded to a domestic disturbance in progress call. Caller advised her brother and boyfriend were fighting. Both subjects had guns, shots had been fired and 1 male was strangling the other. Caller advised she went inside with her kids and put them in their rooms. Deputy and EMS arrived on scene and parties were separated. 1 male went to the ER via Ambulance for mental evaluation and 1 male subject went to the Benton County Jail. All guns were confiscated for investigation.

Big Sandy Area
- Deputy responded to an accident where the caller advised her mirror was sideswiped. Caller advised after her mirror was sideswiped the vehicle who hit her did end up stopping down the road. Deputy arrived on scene and took a report. There were no injuries.
- Deputies, EMS and Coroner responded to an ambulance call. Caller advised he had not heard from his son since Thursday. So he went to check on his son and found him in bed not breathing. EMS advised he had been deceased for a few days. Coroner handled the scene.
Arrests
- 1 male for aggravated assault, 1 male for assault, 1 female for failure to appear, 1 male for hold for other agency, 1 male for criminal conspiracy, 1 male for theft of property, 1 female for DUI, 1 female for hold for other agency
September 12, 2024
Holladay/ Sugar Tree Area
- Deputy responded to a reckless driver call. Caller advised that they were all over the roadway, and almost hit another driver. Deputy arrived on scene and made contact with the vehicle. Deputy performed a traffic stop and talked to the driver. Deputy advised driver was ok and a warning was given.
Camden Area
- Deputies, EMS and Coroner responded to male subject who was not breathing. EMS and Deputies arrived on scene and advised this male was deceased. The Coroner worked the scene.
- Deputy responded to a suspicious person’s call. Caller advised there was a possible teenager acting weird walking down the roadway. Deputy arrived on scene and patrolled the area. No contact was made with anybody walking around.
- Deputies responded to an alarm call. The Alarm Company advised there was an alarm going off with no other information. Deputies arrived on scene and secured the area. Deputies made contact with the home owner and advised everything was ok.
- Deputies responded to a call about a juvenile making threats of harming other people and himself. Deputies went to the residence and made no contact. Advised they would try again later today. Deputy got notification later in the day, the juvenile was taken to the ER for an assessment. Deputies sat at the hospital with the juvenile to assist.
- Deputies responded to a reckless driver call. Caller advised there was a vehicle all over the roadway. Deputies made scene and patrolled the area. Deputies did not make any contact with the reckless driver.
- Deputies and City Officers responded to a 911 call where a female was saying she was in a verbal argument with her friend and her friend had a gun. Female was advising she was scared for her safety and his safety. City Officers arrived on scene to speak with the female, while Deputies arrived on scene at the males home. Deputies made contact with the male subject and advised everything was ok.

Big Sandy Area
- Deputies, THP and BSFD responded to a vehicle fire. Caller called 911 to advise his truck was fully engulfed. Deputies, THP and BSFD arrived on scene and were able to get the fire out. There were no injuries.
