Tennessee Highway Patrol celebrates new Hub City headquarters with open house

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local law enforcement team opens their doors to the public.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol invited residents and potential recruits to check out their facility.

“The new building that we have out on 336 Smith Lane, over by the airport, we try our best to make sure the public knows where their money is being spent, we like to show them. It’s a great facility and it’s perfect for the job that we do. It’s very easy access to the interstate,” said THP Sergeant Charles Childers.

Sgt. Childers offered free food to those who attended their open house.

Along with that, they had a driving simulation for the public to experience driving in black ice, harsh weather conditions, distracted driving and other simulations.

“We try our best to provide them with as much safety and as much security as we possibly can. We need the public’s help to do that. We try our best, we pride ourselves on being respectful and so we’re trying to keep that going,” said Sgt. Childers.

It is also Child Passenger Safety Week. Sgt. Childers shares that if guardians need assistance with their child’s car seat, they should ask for help and remember to drive safely.

“The state is growing, really really fast there’s going to be more cars on the road. So we want to make sure that we have as much out there, safety stuff out there as we possibly can, just in the event something bad happens,” said Sgt. Childers.

Along with informative resources, this event was also a way for potential new recruits to learn about THP.

“We’re always trying to recruit 100% of the time we’re trying to recruit. You can visit join thp.com to apply for the highway patrol. There’s some frequently asked questions on there. Or you can do it the old fashioned way, you can stop by here and ask one of us,” said Sgt. Childers.

Guests were also able to see the Tennessee Highway Patrol special operations unit fly in and take off.
