West Madison Senior Citizen Center hosts inaugural prom

JACKSON, Tenn. — Senior citizens aged 60 and above had the chance to dress up and celebrate prom.

West Madison Senior Citizen Center held their first senior citizen prom. As seniors arrived to the center, Liberty High Technology’s Junior ROTC were outside to escort them into the building.

The main purpose of the prom was to give those who have never experienced prom due to lack of finances, having to drop out of school early to support their family and other reasons, an opportunity to celebrate.

Smiles filled the room as participants danced to the music.

“We just came out here to help them have the amazing prom they can have this year and I hope we come back and do more,” said Aziza Schwalm, group commander for liberty ROTC.

“This has made their day, to be escorted on a red carpet,” said Lisa Bobbitt, executive director for the West Madison Center.

The West Madison Senior Citizen Center told us they are already preparing to have this event again next year.
