One dead, one in custody following Thursday shooting in Jackson

UPDATE (10/9/24): Suspect in custody, facing murder charge for fatal shooting in south Jackson
Grove Avenue and Susan Cove Shooting
Jackson, TN – The Jackson Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred near the intersection of Grove Avenue and Susan Cove. On 9/19/24 at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers responded to this area and found Ryan Mills, a 41-year-old-man, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services where he succumbed to his injuries.
A male subject fled the area and was found in a nearby wooded area with a single self- inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services and is in stable condition. The male subject is currently in custody.
The Jackson Police Department is not searching for any other suspects at this time. This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers 731-424-8477.
