Pope Elementary first in district to receive ‘book vending machine’
JACKSON, Tenn. — One local elementary school gets a cool new surprise that has students excited about reading.
Monday, students from Pope Elementary School in Jackson were surprised with a book vending machine, the first at a school in the Jackson-Madison County School District.
Students had been guessing what was in the big box at the front of the school for many days. Students got a preview of the new books that will be placed inside.
Students can now pick their very own book from the machine and keep it.
The machines have recently been gaining popularity because of many benefits, including rewards for good behavior and an excitement for literacy.
“Literacy is a big deal in our district. We want our kids to read. Reading should be something that kids enjoy. Our awesome PTO decided to purchase this book vending machine so that our kids can make reading fun,” said Laura Walker, librarian for Pope Elementary.
This is just one of many fundraising campaigns the Parent Teacher Organization creates and plans throughout the school year.
