Annual Tina Turner Heritage Days celebration hosted in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Brownsville residents and visitors kick off day two of a festival held for a beloved singer.

Fans from all over the world celebrated the life of the late Tina Turner.

“Tonight we’re announcing our 12 month fundraiser campaign for the Tina Turner statue, tribute to the late great Tina Turner. It will be a six foot bronze statue to be erected to and it’s already been commissioned to be erected in Heritage Park across from the school from Carver Dunbar which is where she actually went to school right here in Brownsville,” said William Rawls, Mayor of Brownsville.

The Delta Heritage Center will celebrate their 12th year of the Tina Turner Heritage Days.

With the announcement of the Tina Turner statue, people are wondering what iconic pose she will display.

“When you think about Tina Turner her passion her authenticity, you think about her singing, you think about the energy you get goosebumps when you think about her. We want this statue to kind of reflect that her performance her energy and her passion,” said Mayor Rawls.

This statue will be here before you know it.

“We just want to make sure we invite everybody to the great unveiling which will be 12 months from now during the Tina Turner Heritage Days 2025,” said Mayor Rawls.

There are ways to donate to help create this history.

“If you go to the ‘brownsvilletn.gov’ website, you’ll see the whole Tina project there and the friends of the Delta Heritage Center. So we have some QR codes and we’ll be emailing out for the opportunity for people to donate any size donations appreciated. We want everyone to be apart of it,” said Mayor Rawls.

Friday night’s celebration was ‘Tinaoke’ which is karaoke songs from Tina Turner and few trivia questions.

Saturday, September 28 will be filled with fun and live performances for fans to enjoy.
