Over 50 pallets of water donated for hurricane relief efforts in East Tennessee
JACKSON, Tenn. — Many donations of water have been given to the Jackson Fire Department over the last few days.
The water has been loaded onto to the truck and is on its way to people in need. Bottled water has been donated by community members, businesses, churches and organizations to each fire station around Jackson. TCAT in Jackson has volunteered their drivers program to haul the water where it needs to go.
“The instructors and students have graciously volunteered to take the first load to east Tennessee and they’re gonna stage it. It’s my understanding that TCAT in Clarksville is going to pick it up and carry it on the rest of the way,” said Jackson Fire Chief Don Friddle.
There was an incredible amount of water that was donated. Chief Friddle says the helpful nature of West Tennessee has shined bright over the past few days.
“The response has been tremendous. We’ve gotten 51 pallets of water. When the individual cases come in, we stack them up on pallets and shrink wrap them. Then we’re gonna get them on a truck and get them sent that way,” said Chief Friddle.
Chief Friddle says there has been plenty of collaboration with other communities around the area as well. This has helped the amount of water being sent grow to the number it has.
“When we started our water drive, we had several of the area fire departments reach out and see if they could bring their water here and we could consolidate it and get it to where it needs to be,” said Chief Friddle.
The Jackson Fire Department is still accepting water donations until the end of the day Thursday.
Chief Friddle said that water was the immediate need. He also stated that there will soon be some other organizations asking for donations for diapers, baby formula, and other items of that nature.
