U.S. Senate candidate Gloria Johnson visits Jackson, speaks at town hall meeting
JACKSON, Tenn. — A Tennessee U.S. Senate candidate makes a campaign stop here in the Hub City.
The Madison Area Democratic Women hosted a town hall featuring Tennessee U.S Senate candidate Gloria Johnson Thursday evening at Jackson State Community College.
“Having public forums is critical because people deserve to hear from the folks who are going to represent them. I thought these questions were so good–so well thought out, and you can just tell these were the things that were on people’s minds,” said Johnson.
Supporters and those that were curious to know Johnson’s future plans were able to sit in and ask questions during this forum. She says she has stopped by to every county in the state to speak with voters.
“What keeps me going are the supporters. I have never seen so much interest and support and excitement about a statewide race in a long time. People are counting on someone to work for them and not work for corporations and not work for lobbyists,” said Johnson.
When asked about encouraging voters who may not care about the issues, Johnson said “People want to hear what they care about.”
“Kids today are getting out of college with 50 to 100 thousand dollars in debt. You want to start a family, you can’t do that that far in debt. We’re making it impossible for them. So, you’ve got to speak to the issues that people care about and make them understand that we get the best government when more of us vote,” said Johnson.
With the state of Tennessee being a mostly Republican state, Democratic senate candidate Johnson says this election is about right and wrong issues.
“It’s been amazing how Tennesseans have stepped up. How they want to help, how they want to make Tennessee better and it’s really is about doing what’s right for Tennesseans. It’s not a left and right issue, it’s a right and wrong issue,” said Johnson.
Gloria Johnson will face republican incumbent Marsha Blackburn in the general election on Tuesday, November 5. Blackburn is scheduled to make an appearance at an event in Jackson next week.
