October designated Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Jackson, Madison County
JACKSON, Tenn. — Members from a local organization that supports healthy relationships in West Tennessee gathered at city hall with local leaders as voices for those who are victims of domestic abuse.
Mayor Scott Conger and Mayor AJ Massey signed a proclamation Friday designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month for all of Jackson-Madison County. The proclamation was presented to WRAP.
In addition to declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, WRAP will be hosting various events this month to reinforce their vision to develop safe, stable and nurturing relationships.
A women’s self defense class with The Pack Martial Arts will be held Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at 605 Carriage House Drive.
The Purple Sand Project will be held on October 9 at 512 Roland Avenue, and head out to Community Day on October 19 at the AMP downtown for an educational day filled with fun.
There is also a trunk or treat at the WRAP office on October 31.
“It’s actually really amazing to know you have the support of the mayors of the county that you live in, the city mayor and county mayor. Just knowing that we all come together and agree and are fighting the same fight, it makes things a lot easier,” said Ashley Horton, domestic violence response specialist.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, or experiencing domestic violence you can call WRAP’s hotline at (800) 273-8712 for confidential assistance from a trained advocate.
