Records show that Carter originally pled guilty on a drug charge, however he violated his probation. On July 16, he was charged with aggravated domestic assault via strangulation. Carroll was on probation for aggravated assault and later faced pending charges of aggravated assault, criminal responsibility of burglary, and kidnapping.

Further research revealed that Carroll was previously convicted of six aggravated assault charges with 3 additional aggravated assault charges pending. Finally, Enochs had previously pled guilty to a class D felony of theft of property.

“These individuals were in jail basically for — 2 of them for new charges — while they were out on probation and the other one violated his probation for another unknown reason at this time,” said Sutton.

The sheriff’s department says after correctional officers found the victim, they provided care as well as called for EMS to transport him to a local hospital.

“He was then taken to a trauma center where he underwent surgery to help him and he is currently recovering from these extensive injuries that are received from this attempted murder that occurred in our jail,” said Sutton.

At this time, the cause of this attack remains unknown. Officers have reported that this pod of inmates were getting along prior to this incident.
