City of Jackson continues with street repairs, reminds drivers to use caution

JACKSON, Tenn. — They’re on the move! The City of Jackson’s Street Department is making rounds and it just may be in your area.

The department’s superintendent, Johnny Weddle, told us that they are working on North Highland and the downtown area right now.

“This project started back in July. But we were on nights. We worked 12 hours at night,” said Weddle.

He said they made good progress at night because the traffic wasn’t as heavy, and they were able to receive asphalt from a nearby plant working in Haywood.

“Once they shut down, we kinda waited and we knew that November was coming up so we wanted to get back out here again before the plants shut down. So we’re doing it in the daytime now,” said Weddle.

Since they are in the downtown area right now, he says they’re doing a section at a time.

“Because the traffic is a lot heavier downtown, so we’re still trying to make it safe for the workers here,” said Weddle.

They will continue to move out south within the city limits. You can also visit the City of Jackson’s website to sign up for notifications of road closures in your area.

Weddle had this to say to residents.

“Respect us. We’re out here and we want to go home too,” said Weddle.
