Jackson’s long-awaited Dixie plant officially opens its doors

JACKSON, Tenn. — A new facility opens its doors for the first time to welcome in partners and the community.

“Kind of a peek behind the wall of the process of how our market-leading brands are made. So, being able to see the process from start to finish and how our top performing plates are really adding value out in the community,” said Michael Cook, plant director for Dixie of Jackson.

The Georgia-Pacific Dixie Plant officially cut the ribbon Wednesday morning at Cardinal Drive in Jackson. Offering tours inside of the plant, as well as words from those that made this all possible.

“The collaboration with the community, the mayors, JEA, TVA has been phenomenal. Early on, they signaled to us they were really looking for a partner and our culture–we look for preferred partnerships. The things that they were saying fit perfectly with what we’re looking for in a community partner and we found that to continue to this day,” said Andrew Noble, vice president and general manager for Dixie of Jackson.

Investors originally broke ground for this plant in December of 2022. Following that, a job fair was hosted in July of 2023. Since the job fair, many positions have been filled.

“We are excited to bring over 200 jobs to this community, and in the first few waves of hiring, we’ve had more and more applicants each time. Trying to find the right employees who were contribution motivated, who want to find a place where they can make a contribution to this company and to the community that they’re in,” said Noble.

The tour consisted of a mile walk to see the start and finish process of how the plates were made. The plant is 900,000 square feet, offering services to those who shop at Kroger, Publix, Sam’s Club, Walmart and Costco stores in the northwest and southeast. As well as various of retailers, restaurants and hotels.

“If you flip to the back side of that plate, it should be a code that says ‘JAC’ with a date on it which will tell you when it was made and what facility it was made. So you’ll see some with Jackson on it coming to a store near you,” said Cook.

Plant leaders with Dixie of Jackson say they’re happy to share this moment with so many members of the community.
