Educator of the Week: Amanda Pruitt

It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Amanda Pruitt is a teacher at Huntingdon High School.

She teaches English I, STEM I, and STEM III.

Pruitt’s favorite thing about being an educator is the kids, stating that “they’re awesome.”

Pruitt was inspired to become an educator by teachers she had when she was a student.

“I had some teachers who were vital in my success, and I also wanted to help others be vital, you know, I wanted to be that person that helped them to succeed as well,” Pruitt said.

Pruitt has now been teaching 15 years.

She then took time to highlight the importance of the Hope Scholarship in allowing students the option of higher education.

“I think the Hope Scholarship gives opportunities to students who wouldn’t necessarily get opportunities, so it’s just a little extra money to help them further their education if they choose to do so.”

Pruitt is constantly reminded that she is right where she needs to be.

“Every day is a moment where I know that teaching is the right choice,” she said. “There’s a blessing in every day, and so, I’m reminded every day that I need to be here.”

Pruitt’s main focus is to always be learning.

“I am a lifelong learner, and so I just enjoy learning anything I can learn and so, I just, I like to share that. So it’s just kinda been my thing, just to learn and share that knowledge.”

For future educators, Pruitt says to follow your heart.

Pruitt is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
