7-year-old starts fundraiser to help local animal shelters

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — A young girl is raising money for local animal shelters at an upcoming pet adoption event.

Kayleigh Birl is a lover of animals. At just 6 years old, Birl started volunteering at local animal shelters.

She buys items for the animals with her own money and even finds other ways to raise money.

Birl has a goal to raise $5,000 for a local shelter to help purchase items on their wish list. She recently started an online fundraiser and she is asking the public to not only donate, but also to come out to the adoption event.

‘Adopt-A-thon’ will be held at Pet-Sense in Dyersburg on Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“30 vendors there, food trucks there, 5 to 6 shelters; it’s a huge adoption event. Giveaways, and Kayleigh is going to be there passing out coupons,” said Angela Birl, mother to Kayleigh.

“I love animals and I just want to make their life a little bit better,” said Kayleigh.

The coupons can be used for a discounted grooming visit and other services at local shelters. To help Kayleigh reach her goal of $5,000, click here.
