Jackson Police Department announces 5-year plan, asks for public input
JACKSON, Tenn. — From 2025 to 2029, the Jackson Police Department will create a plan to guide decision-making, set goals and track progress.
Chief Thom Corley told us usually they see annually what the Jackson Police Department has done and will do, but he believes they should look forward further than just one year at a time. Thus producing a 5-year strategy plan.
“We’re going to come up with some initiatives and some priorities for the Jackson Police Department both internally and externally in the community of 5 or 6 initiatives and priorities that will drive our decision making and what we do and how we do things,” said Corley.
The department has an anonymous survey for citizens of Jackson as well as those who visit here where they can answer questions and give their input on how police are doing.
Corley said officers and staff in the building also did a similar survey.
“We sent a similar survey to other departments in the city cause we partner with just about every department in the city. We ask them, ‘How are we doing when we partner with your department? What can we do better?’ That’s what it’s about. We’re trying to improve. We can constantly improve,” said Corley.
He said they have been working internally on pay raises for the staff and benefits.
“We’ve been doing a lot of community work and that’s positive. We’ve been working together as a team better, at the department, between divisions, but there’s some negatives like not having constant communication up and down the chain and then laterally, so there’s some areas of focus that we need to focus on,” said Corley.
There is a team set in place that will look over the data after a certain time.
“We’ll take a snapshot after the middle of November, 30 days out, and we’ll pull that data down so we can start looking at it. The ultimate goal is for us to have this strategic plan put in place by spring,” said Corley.
Corley also wanted the community to know that during the month of October, JPD will park their breast cancer cruiser car at any breast cancer awareness event.
