JMCSS School Board takes final vote regarding proposed charter school
JACKSON, Tenn. — We have an update regarding a final vote from school board leaders.
The Jackson-Madison County School System met Thursday evening to discuss the lawsuit around the proposed charter school. In September of 2022, The American Classical Academy submitted an application for a charter school in Madison County. In October of 2023, the Jackson-Madison County School System filed a lawsuit against this school.
Thursday, Jackson-Madison County School leaders voted to dismiss the lawsuit. Leaders have shared that this vote was not if they were ‘for’ or ‘against’ the proposed charter school.
“So that was a decision the board made more feasibility because we are very conscious with the money we spend because it is taxpayers money, so we felt like it was the best thing to do. It was a unanimous vote it just shows that the board is working together,” said Harvey Walden, chairman for the JMCSS School Board.
School district leaders say their current focus is their 5-year plan of providing excellent education to their students.
