Union University hosts the buddy walk program
JACKSON Tenn. — Union University hosts a walk to raise awareness for down syndrome.
The Buddy Walk is sponsored by the Down Syndrome Association of West Tennessee. They provide concessions, games, and pumpkin painting. The Buddy Walk program was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion for people with down syndrome.
It’s a way to show them how they enhance the lives of their communities.
“At these buddy walks we recognize every single individual with down syndrome. It doesn’t matter what age they are, we recognize every single one of them every single year,” said Dexter Williams, President of the Down Syndrome Association of West Tennessee.
According to the National Down Syndrome Society 17 events took place across the country during the inaugural year of The Buddy Walk.
