Local artists show off unique art
JACKSON Tenn. — Art is the expression of a person’s creative skill and imagination. Katie Garcia and Trey Thompson wanted a place where residents of the community could appreciate fine arts.
“This is a stepping stone to a larger project. We are planning to open a brick and mortar gallery for local artists. That will be coming in the next couple of months, so stay tuned for that,” said Katie Garcia, owner of Art on Shannon. For a year, they have done quarterly art pop ups. They told us that art benefits everyone differently.
“For me, it helped me get through a really difficult year last year. For others, it’s just a great way to express their emotions,” said Trey Thompson, artist/founder of Madison Muse Society. You could purchase any of the art tonight. The options varied from watercolor art to clothing.
“This stuff is great and people need to come out and support these people before we lose them to bigger cities that are more than willing to come out and support local artists,” said trey Thompson artist/founder of Madison Muse Society.
Tonight was also opening night for “Franklin’s little bar”, a tiny pub in downtown. Garcia the name of the bar was inspired by her grandfather.
“It’s an extension of Art on Shannon where whatever walk of life you’re in, background, creed or orientation..you’re going to be welcome. You’re going to be a friend and we’re going to call you by your name when you come in the door,” said Katie Garcia, owner of Art on Shannon.
