Our Jackson Home celebrates new ‘Made in Jackson’ journal issue with release event
JACKSON, Tenn. — Made in Jackson is back for a second year with a journal launch recognizing some local residents.
At this occasion, they spotlight local individuals by sharing stories and putting positivity into perspective. Our Jackson Home is celebrating the people who are making Jackson innovative, entertaining, caring and enduring.
“We’ve been doing the journal for nine years now. The journal of Our Jackson Home comes out twice a year. The ‘Made in Jackson’ specifically. We opened up all of our submissions to the community to submit people that they think are making Jackson into the home that we know and love,” said Maddie McMurry, editor in chief of Our Jackson Home.
They discuss the theme of the issue over short talks and music, and release the new issue of the journal featuring stories nominated and selected in the community.
“The Made in Jackson event really gives people a community ownership in the journal because they get to decide the stories that are in it and we have volunteer contributor that writes for the journal, so it’s really the community bringing our vision to life,” said McMurry.
The ‘Made in Jackson’ issue is a collection of stories featuring people in Jackson who are making Jackson a special place in the areas of community, culture, change and cuisine.
“Something that Our Jackson Home does really well is to tell the stories of people who are living and working in Jackson and all areas. So, I think that’s the big thing to take away for this event and our journals. We install public art, we host Porch Fest and 731 Day every year, so just get engaged and learn about all these great people that we’re telling stories about,” said Lizzie Emmons, program director for Our Jackson Home.
It’s a night of celebration with stories by Teresa McSweeney, Jeremy Tubbs, Whitney Owens and Keith Davis along with music provided by Kelsea Merriweather, Rob and Jay.
They’re working on storytelling through public art and you can look forward to a new art installation in front of theLOCAL.
