‘Take Your Girls Night Out 5K’ supports those battling breast cancer

JACKSON, Tenn. — Residents had the opportunity to raise money for a good cause and say ‘no’ to breast cancer.

This evening a special 5K was held at The Woman’s Clinic in Jackson.

Participants were able to run or walk for the 15th annual “Take Your Girls Night Out 5K.”

The event supports the Take Your Girls Night Out fund which financially assists West Tennessee women currently battling breast cancer by helping to pay utility bills, mortgages and more. Attendees were encouraged to wear pink to show their support.

Organizers say early detection is most important, because one-in-eight women will develop breast cancer.

“I’ve seen firsthand ladies come in for their mammograms and get that call saying that they might have breast cancer and so to see it first hand it really makes me feel good to be on the other end to be able to help them and to just give back,” said Billie Jo, event coordinator.

They’re women that we know and women that we grow up with and its really great to give back to our close-knit West Tennessee community,” said Maigan Smith, assistant administrator.

The 5K had a ‘Mean Girls’ theme this year and they had about 250 participants.
