South Jackson murder suspect appears in court

JACKSON, Tenn. — Arthur Johnson, who was arrested for the murder on Susan Cove that occurred in September, had his first court appearance Wednesday morning.

At approximately 8 p.m., on September 19, officers from the Jackson Police Department were dispatched to a shooting that occurred on Susan Cove in south Jackson.

When they arrived, 41-year-old Ryan Mills was found at a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. Mills was taken to a local hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

29-year-old Arthur Johnson was discovered nearby and appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

On Monday, October 7, Johnson was charged with first-degree murder and has been in custody at the Madison County Justice Complex. Wednesday morning, Johnson had his first court appearance.

The appearance was fairly brief, as this has been pushed back 30 days for forensic evidence. 30 days from Wednesday is Friday, November 22.
