Educator of the Week: Lindsay Young

It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Lindsay Young is a teacher at Lexington High School.

Young teaches health science to ninth through twelfth grade students.

Her favorite part of teaching is building bonds with her students.

“Impacting the kids, getting them interested in health care, but also being their school mom – whatever they need at that time, whatever they need, whether if its a friend, if it’s a counselor,” Young said.

Young has been a teacher for the last 16 years and says she loves teaching to her students.

Prior to teaching, Young worked in healthcare as a respiratory therapist.

“I’m from here, I graduated from here,” said Young. “I actually had health science here and now I teach health science in this room, so that’s kind of cool. I’m a respiratory therapist and then I worked at the hospital and then came here to teach.”

Her favorite teacher growing up inspired her current teaching style.

“My favorite teacher was Susan Walker, she was very close with the kids. She would teach, but she would also love them.”

Young has advice for the new educators out there.

“Just remember that they’re kids and have fun with them. Teach them what they need to know and help them along the way, but also be there for them.”

Young is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
