Over 50 vehicles show up for local elementary school’s trunk or treat

MEDINA, Tenn. — Teachers and PTO members have students lining up for Halloween festivities and tons of candy!

“Today is Halloween, so we are putting on our trunk or treat for our South Gibson Elementary School kiddos,” said Hannah Hawkins, PTO member.

But this isn’t any traditional Halloween celebration at school. More than 50 vehicles parked on the school lot with their trunks decorated with a variety of kid-friendly themes.

“Parents came out today to decorate vehicles and they’re going to pass out the candy, and just have a great day with the kiddos,” said Hawkins.

Preschool students’ eyes lit up when they saw the Grinch, the Coca-Cola polar bear and other characters. Some had to walk through lava to get their candy, others had to make a slam dunk for theirs.

It’s put on every year by the parent teacher organization. This year is a new group of board members, who dressed up as 80’s fitness gals. Hawkins says her two children, Paisley and Heath, were anxiously awaiting the big celebration Thursday.

“All I could say is, ‘Get up! It’s Halloween,’ and we were ready to go!” said Hawkins.

The teachers also held a contest inside the school for the best decorated hallway.

Congratulations to first grade for winning the hallway decorating contest and congratulations to third-grader Westleighly Ann Kirksey’s mother for winning the ‘best trunk’ contest with the Charlie Brown theme.
