‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ program recognizes local veterans

JACKSON, Tenn. — The senior resource center ‘Home Instead’ announces the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program has returned to West Tennessee.

The program began in 2003 and since its inception, around 2 million gifts have been provided to more than 750,000 seniors. Through the program, local community members can spread joy to a senior who might otherwise not receive a special holiday gift. This year, all the recipients of this program for West Tennessee will be elderly military veterans.

“We even have some staff members that have veterans that are no longer with us and so this is just a way even to honor their memory and just to recognize that it’s personal and that these seniors made a lot of sacrifices for us and it’s a great way to give back,” said Calista Joyce, partnership development for Home Instead.

Jackson Mayor Scott Conger proclaimed Friday the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program is more than just a gift giving initiative but embodies the spirit of community, care and love.
