Gibson Co. Office on Aging seeks volunteers for Thanksgiving meal distribution

FROM THE GIBSON COUNTY OFFICE ON AGING:

Once again this year, the Gibson County Office on Aging is making a special effort to ensure that our older Gibson County citizens are remembered. This will be our 32nd year. In 1991, we served 80 meals. In 2023, we served 262 meals, and expect to serve over 300 meals this year.

We are organizing Project Care for Gibson County homebound senior citizens on Thanksgiving Day. Many of them will be alone and will not have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal with their families and loved ones.

“They will receive a turkey and dressing lunch with all the trimmings. Community donations will supply the food. The ladies and gentlemen will meet on Wednesday morning, November 27th to package the pies, rolls, cranberry sauce, and a Thanksgiving card from the Bradford Elementary students.

On Thanksgiving morning, November 28th, volunteers will gather at the Bradford Fire Department to package the turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings. Elected officials will assist with packaging the meals, and volunteers will then deliver the meals using their vehicles. Motorcycle riders will follow to ensure the meals are delivered directly to the doors of our senior citizens.

We need your assistance in packaging the meals for delivery. We will set up an assembly line at 8:00a.m. in order to have the meals ready for delivery by 9:00 a.m. The meeting point is the Bradford Fire Department at 207 E. Main St.

Our goal is not only to deliver the food but also to raise awareness of the needs of our senior citizens. By working together, we can make a difference.

Please call 731-742-2536 by November 11th to let me know if you will be able to help.

Sincerely,
Pam Dethloff, Director
