Braves Hall of Fame Pitcher John Smoltz visits West Tennessee for local fundraising event

JACKSON, Tenn.–A baseball legend makes a visit to West Tennessee Thursday evening as part of a local fundraiser.

Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame Pitcher John Smoltz was the special guest at Meridian Baptist Church in south Jackson.
Some of Smoltz’s accomplishments include, 2015 Hall of Fame inductee, a 1996 National League Cy Young Award Winner and a 1995 World Series Champion.

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News had a chance to speak to Smoltz who says he’s no stranger to Jackson and West Tennessee and is honored to be apart of this event.

“You know for me personally , it’s like I said I get to give back in a lot of different ways and I’ve had a blessed life and honoring God in everything that I do is, like I said if the calendar works out and whenever I can help, I try to,” said Smoltz.

Proceeds from the event go to the Phillip Trey Lindsey Scholarship Fund.
