Educator of the Week: Stefanie Bishop
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Stefanie Bishop is a 2nd grade teacher at Parris South Elementary School.
This is her 20th year teaching, and Bishop has always wanted this career.
“I used to dream about being a teacher when I was a little girl,” Bishop said. “I’d go home and play school with my stuffed animals.”
Bishop has multiple favorite parts of being an educator.
“One thing that stands out a lot is when kids come back from years past to visit and share special memories that we had,” she sadi. “The ‘a-ha!’ moments that kids have when they realize they’ve learned something they didn’t think they could. There’s a lot of special moments.”
Bishop then took a moment to express what the Hope Scholarship means to her.
“Children in our area, they can go to college and pursue a higher degree in what they choose, and they have an opportunity that not everyone has had,” said Bishop.
Bishop also shared her approach to teaching.
“Everyone learns differently, so, when we learn something new, I try to hit all the senses that I can. They can feel it, they can smell it, they can taste it, they can see it, they can hear it,” she said.
Lastly, Bishop expresses gratitude for her nomination.
“Flattered,” she said. “There’s people in our building that I teach with and our county that are amazing teachers that I get to work with everyday, and we make each other better and the kids, parents, I’m very humbled.”
Bishop is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
