UT Gardens of Jackson kicks off annual amaryllis sale
JACKSON, Tenn. — UT Gardens-Jackson held their annual amaryllis sale Tuesday.
Held at the West Tennessee Ag-Research and Education Center, the event had more than 500 amaryllis bulbs across 23 varieties available for purchase. Potting soil and plants from the fall plant sale were also available, including trees, conifers and spider lilies. However, the specialty amaryllis bulbs, shipped from Holland remained the focus of the event.
“The amaryllis bulb is a bulb that you put in a pot and you grow inside. It’s really easy to grow, we have instructions on how to care for them and it’s a plant you would keep indoors and then you could put it outside in the summer but, again, it blooms in the winter time so it brings a lot of joy and bright color to the inside during the winter months,” said Jason Reeves, research associate and curator of UT Gardens-Jackson.
Proceeds from Tuesday’s event went to benefiting the upkeep of UT Gardens-Jackson, and their ongoing mission to provide hundreds of varieties of plants for public enjoyment, community education and horticultural research.
