Haywood County’s longest-serving sheriff dies

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — The community is mourning the loss of a former public official in Haywood County.

Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett announced on social media the death of former Haywood County Sheriff Raymond Russell.

Sheriff Garrett says Russell is known as Haywood’s longest-serving sheriff, holding the position a total of 16 years, from 1986-2002.

Sheriff Garrett called for prayers and support for Russell’s family.
