Tips on maintaining positive relationships during the holidays

JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s getting close to the holidays, which means families get together to spend time together and reflect on the past year and what to be thankful for. Holidays bring really good food to the table. But, along with turkey, dressing and cranberries. This year, we’re adding political opinions into the family dinner mix since the recent election.

Here are some tips to keep the peace around the dinner table when everyone’s opinions start coming out.

Energy healer and human behavioral expert, Candace Silvers, reminds us to shift the mind set from dreading the holidays to being thankful for the holidays, which is a time to give back and love others.

People need to feel heard, Silvers recommends to let others speak. When they are finished, look deeper into what they said.

“Find something that you agree with so that they can actually feel that you heard them. When they let down their guard, they also let down their wall, and there is a possibility of you being an example that you wish to see in the world,” said Silvers.

Silvers says, keep positivity in mind, and go into the holidays with an open mind and open heart.

“Remember if we see enemy over there. They see enemy over here. And if you’re willing to practice seeing them the way that someone loves them sees them; you’ll start seeing them that way too,” said Silvers.

There are other tactics to stop your energy from spiraling into a political stand off. Ask to not talk about post election issues. Instead, enjoy the time with each other by playing board games, getting fresh air or taking time to go around the table and say why you are thankful for the time together.

“The truth is we’re all fighting for the same thing we are fighting for a better world, a better community, for safety, for love, for connection. We all want the same thing we just have different roots,” said Silvers.

Silvers has practiced energy healing for more than 4 decades and trained countless doctors, nurses and healthcare workers all over the world on how to maintain positivity.
