Educator of the Week: Charo Lovings
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Charo Lovings is a 2nd grade teacher at Isaac Lane Elementary School in Jackson.
She shares that parents are a child’s first teacher, so becoming a mom made her want to be a teacher.
On top of parenthood, Lovings had other inspirations behind her career choice.
“I’ve always been drawn to children and I guess the kid in heart with me, and so, for me, learning hands-on and seeing the math and seeing the children’s light bulbs go off, for me, that was something that I know that I needed and I loved getting it as a child or even as an adult learning, so for me the type of learner I am is also something that made me become a teacher,” Lovings said.
Lovings has now been teaching for 18 years and finds that everyone learns differently. She employs various classroom strategies to maintain her students’ attention.
“I try to keep the children moving around, and I try to make sure that they have something as far as manipulatives or that they’re moving and bouncing, along with trying to focus and sit still.”
Lovings has advice for those pursuing a career in education.
“To teach the children as if they were your own,” she said. “I feel that teaching my students as if they’re my children, because when they walk in this door, I’m the one responsible for them, I’m the one to make sure that I can return them to their parents.”
Lovings was surprised but thankful for her nomination.
“It caught me off guard, and I’m very tickled and honored and grateful.”
Lovings is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
