Newly finished mural created by Humboldt students tells story of community
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Students at a local high school have been working all week on a project for the community.
Friday brings the completion of the masterpiece after just a few final touches.
The mural at the corner of 22nd and Mitchell, across from Bailey Park in Humboldt, has finally come together.
You can see here how much detail has been added this week.
It is a 140-foot long mural painted by students from Humboldt High School, who have worked alongside nationally recognized artist Hamilton Glass.
After a few touch-ups and shading done by art teacher Libby Lynch and Glass, the mural will be complete for the entire community to enjoy.
“I really enjoyed working with the students at the high school. Getting their ideas together and putting together something for their community was really what this project was all about,” said Glass.
Students stood in awe when they saw the nearly finished piece.
“Its a highlight for a teacher to see that. I told you about the kids, on their own, totally student driven. They started a chant: ‘Team art! Team art!’ I have never in my teaching career been more proud of a group of students,” said Lynch.
This was made possible by a generous grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, in which, Humboldt High School has received for the second year in a row.
Last year, Glass painted a mural on Main Street.
The new mural is on a building owned by King Tire who matched the grant amount to help fund the project.
