Preparing to prevent: Staying up to date with vaccines during the holiday season

JACKSON, Tenn. — Historical data shows that Covid-19 cases peak in the winter, emphasizing the importance of staying up to date with vaccines.

Dr. Reed Tuckson, managing director of Tuckson Health Connections, says we must be prepared to prevent disease. Everyone who are 6 months and older should get the updated Covid vaccine.

Data is clear that vaccines are effective and safe. These vaccines should last for 6 months. Officials say it’s especially critical to stay protected this time of year.

“The holiday season and colder weather means more intimate indoor contact and that means viral diseases like Covid spread more easily. Our coughs and our sneezes can transmit particles more easily and, remember, Covid hasn’t gone away. The virus continues to mutate and people are getting sick and unfortunately still dying,” said Dr. Tuckson.

Those who are 65 and older or anyone immuno-compromised should get additional doses based on conversations with a health professional.
