Lights Up! Theatre Co. Announces New Works Series: A Playwriting Contest for West Tennessee Talent

JACKSON, TN – November 20th, 2024 – Lights Up! Theatre Co. is thrilled to launch its inaugural New Works Series, a playwriting contest designed to spotlight the creativity of West Tennessee playwrights. This exciting initiative offers local writers the opportunity to bring their stories to life on stage while competing for cash prizes and professional recognition. 

“Theater is all about storytelling, and we know there are incredible stories waiting to be told right here in West Tennessee,” said Grayson Hart, Artistic Director of Lights Up! Theatre Co.. “The New Works Series is our way of celebrating local talent and giving playwrights the platform they deserve.” 

Contest Details: 

• Eligibility: Open to playwrights residing in West Tennessee. 
• Play Requirements: Submissions must be original, unpublished works with a runtime between 45 to 90 minutes. 
• Prizes: 

○ Winner: $500 and a fully staged production in Lights Up! Theatre Co.’s next season. 

○ Runner-Up: $250 and a staged reading of their play. 

• Submission Deadline: March 1st, 2025 
• Winner Notification: April 1st, 2025 

Submissions should be emailed to lightsuptheatreco@gmail.com with the subject line “New Works Series Submission.” Writers must include a brief synopsis of their play and contact information. 

A panel of theater professionals will evaluate the entries based on originality, storytelling, and potential for stage production.
