Avoid disaster if cooking with gas: Chef talks kitchen safety

JACKSON, Tenn. — The kitchen will be a popular place to be over the next week, and we have tips to help make sure you have a safe Thanksgiving dinner.

Chef Chris Galarza, founder of Forward Dining Solutions, spoke with us on the potential negative impacts of cooking with gas stoves.

Chef Galarza says when cooking with gas, keep your stove’s ventilation turned on or open a window to help fumes escape.

He also says to try cooking with an open flame as little as possible, and utilize the oven instead whenever you can.

“So for example, instead of boiling green beans, maybe you wrap them up in prosciutto, toss them in your oven, and get them done that way, right? As much as you can do in the oven is going to be better,” Chef Galarza said.

As gas stoves can emit carbon monoxide, Chef Galarza reminds that it’s important to have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home to keep your family safe.
