Coldest Weather this Season is Here, a Freeze is on the Way for West Tennessee
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
The coldest weather this fall is here and it is here to stay through Saturday. Temperatures will feel in the mid 20s Friday morning and it will be cold enough without the winds for frost to develop for all of West Tennessee tonight. The winds are going to weaken some tonight but they will still play a factor in the wind chill department Friday morning. The actual temperature may not drop below freezing tonight but it is going to feel below freezing around sunrise Friday. Bundle up the kids for school and yourself if you are going to watch some high school playoff football tomorrow night. Warmer weather will move in towards the back half of the weekend. Things could get a bit stormy around Thanksgiving that could impact your travel plans. We will let you know when some warmer weather will be returning as well as when the rain showers will return; all coming up here.

THIS WEEK:
It has been a warm but breezy start to our work week in West Tennessee after a decent weekend. The record on Monday was 80° and we will fall just short but all of the region reached the mid 70s to kick off the week on Monday. The clouds returned Monday evening and stuck around until Tuesday morning. Rain showers and a few storms will also mixed in Monday night and lingering around into Tuesday morning with most of seeing close to 1/2″ of rain. A few storms mixed in but we didn’t see any severe weather again. Clouds moved out during the day on Tuesday bringing back mostly sunny skies for the majority of the work week. Some clouds returned briefly Wednesday morning along the next front that brought some gusty winds and a 15° temperature drop.

Temperatures were warm Monday night due to the clouds and the winds. The winds came out of the south early on Tuesday and started out breezy before weakening as the day went on. The winds picked back up again around sunrise Wednesday morning and will be intense for the rest of the work week. Lows only reached the low 60s Monday night but dropped to around 50° Tuesday night. Monday’s front came in from the west instead of the north so it didn’t bring much of a temperature drop as highs still reached the low 70s on Tuesday. Wednesday night lows will fall down into the upper 30s but with the breezy winds, it will feel near freezing in the morning. Please bundle up and make sure the little ones have their winter gear ready to go for Thursday and Friday.

Our second major cold spell of the fall showed up Wednesday morning. The front was a mostly dry front for us but did bring an increase in clouds during the middle of the day on Wednesday as the front passed before clearing back out into the evening hours. Highs on Wednesday still reached the upper 50s to near 60° keeping high temperatures near normal for this time of the year. The winds shifted from the west to the northwest and were quite windy at times as the front moved through. The winds will stay windy out of the northwest all day on Thursday as well with gusts over 30 MPH possible in the late morning and early afternoon hours. Thursday highs will only reach the low to mid 50s but Thursday night lows are forecast to drop to the low to mid 30s. There is a chance for a freeze but the most likely time to drop to the low 30s from this cold spell looks to be Friday night into Saturday morning. Regardless if it is cold enough for a freeze, frost is looking likely for both Friday and Saturday mornings in West Tennessee.

THE WEEKEND:
The weekend is going to start out chilly near freezing on Saturday morning and highs will only reach the low 50s just like on Friday. The winds on Saturday will shift to the west during the day and back to the south on Sunday. That will start a warming trend Sunday afternoon but Saturday night into Sunday morning is still going to be cold with morning lows on Sunday in the mid 30s. Sunday night lows will only drop down to around 50° due to the southerly winds increasing the dew point as we head into next week. Skies will be mostly sunny on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday. The next chance for rain looks to be on Monday and Tuesday next week. The system again does not look like it is going to bring any severe weather our way but we will be keeping a close eye on it as that system gets a little closer to our region.
