Protect yourself from respiratory illnesses as colder weather approaches
JACKSON, Tenn. — As the holiday season brings family gatherings and colder weather, flu and Covid-19 cases often surge, posing risks of severe illness.
A runny nose or an unrelenting cough could be more than just another common cold. It might be an infection caused by the flu or Covid-19 viruses. These viruses often spike during the fall and winter when the air is cold and dry and people spend more time indoors with windows closed.
Dr. Rebecca Stern discusses who should receive vaccines.
“There is populations that will benefit the most. Who we wanna make sure get vaccinated are those folks who are 65 years and older. Those folks who have immune-compromising conditions. Those who are pregnant. And those who are in long-term care facilities,” said Dr. Stern.
Now, more than ever, being vaccinated can help keep symptoms mild so that people in Tennessee can risk less severe flu or Covid-19 illness and do more of what they enjoy this holiday season.
