JMCSS now accepting donations for its 7th annual coat drive

JACKSON, Tenn. — The 7th annual Jackson-Madison County School System Coat Drive has begun!

Community partners have already received 160 referrals for coats from several schools in the district. Due to the overwhelming number of referrals for coats and other winter accessories, JMCSS is asking community volunteers, staff and stakeholders to donate.

The coat drive lasts through December 2. However, if coats are donated after that, they’ll be accepted and go out to students in need. New or gently used coats are being accepted as well as hats, scarves and gloves — anything to keep the students warm.

“If there is a student who is in need of a coat, the families can reach out to the school counselors. School counselors will send me the referrals and those coats will go out as we have the sizes that are needed,” said Rhonda Heard-Bigham, school and community engagement advisor for JMCSS.

Coats of all sizes will be accepted though there is a specific need for larger sizes like medium, large, extra large and up.

If you have any questions, you can contact Rhonda Heard-Bigham at 731-506-2413.
