McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport renamed Jackson Regional Airport
McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport Renamed Jackson Regional Airport
JACKSON, TN, December 5, 2024 – McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport is pleased to announce that it will be changing its name to the Jackson Regional Airport with the approval of the County Commission, as well the Mayor of Jackson and the Mayor of Madison County.
This decision was reached by the Jackson Regional Airport board of directors and leadership to help make the process of locating the airport and its website easier for potential customers outside of West Tennessee. The name change will help it be identified quickly on lists and be more relevant to search engine results.
“We want to be easier to find for all of the industrial growth coming to our area,” said Steve Smith, Executive Director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority. “JRA wants to grow along with that industry. By renaming the airport, we help these potential customers engage with us and the community at large.”
Plans are being developed to continue to honor the legacies of Senator Kenneth McKellar and Major Robert Ray “Buster” Sipes at the airport.
The Jackson Regional Airport is located in the center of West Tennessee, and totals more than 800 acres with a 6,000 foot grooved primary runway and a 3,500 foot secondary runway. The airport has a history of service beginning as a military aviation training center in 1941. Since then, it has been used as a civilian airport, and serves the people of Jackson and Madison County with daily scheduled regional airline service to Chicago and Atlanta with Denver Air Connection.
